This qualification provides a trade outcome in wall and floor tiling for residential and
commercial construction work. The qualification has core unit of competency requirements
that cover common skills for the construction industry, as well as the specialist field of
work, wall and floor tiling.
Tilers work with materials like ceramic, glass, slate, marble and clay. They cut these
materials and lay tiles on walls and floors, both interior and exterior. They may also add
decorative touches to their basic work.

certification requirements. Relevant state and territory regulatory authorities should be
consulted to confirm those requirements.
This qualification is suitable for an Australian apprenticeship pathway.
Completion of the general construction induction training program, specified in the Safe
Work Australia model Code of Practice: Construction Work, is required by anyone carrying out
construction work. Achievement of CPCCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction
industry meets this requirement.

All learners will undertake an initial skills assessment to determine suitability for the
course and student needs. This is a physically demanding course requiring working with power
tools, long hours standing and bending, manual handling and carrying various equipment. It
is important that students confirm their physical health and fitness and advise SIT of any
disability and other physical ailments that may negatively impact their ability to complete
the qualification.
Determination of course suitability and additional support (if any) will be made by a
qualified assessor.
This qualification is expected to be completed in 52 weeks.
This will include:
• 44 weeks of face-to-face training and assessment
• 8 weeks of total study break period interspersed between study periods.
To achieve this qualification, the candidate must demonstrate competency in:
• 20 units of competency:
• 17 core units
• 3 elective units.
This delivery of this course has 2 components:
• Face-to-face classroom sessions,
• Practical training and assessment in purpose-built workshops.

Practical training conducted at SIT Workshops
All structured activities are scheduled for 20 hours per week. Participants will complete
theoretical training in the SIT Campus classrooms, Practical training will be conducted in
purpose-built workshops.
SIT will use a range of techniques during face-to-face delivery including trainer
presentations and demonstrations, individual tasks, case studies, research, role plays,
practical demonstrations, and group work.
Students will be required to complete a list of additional self-study activities in their own time to complement the formal learning they are doing as part of their studies. These activities will involve students working on their own with limited direction from their trainer and will be for activities such as watching prescribed videos, research and answering questions; practical activities; research and report on topics provided; review of assessment requirements, & self-reflection. These learning activities form a formal part of the training and are mandatory.
Students will have access to all tools, equipment, materials and documentation required,
including relevant workplace procedures, product and manufacturing specifications. SIT will
provide its students personal safety equipment PPEs for their use in the workshop during
training. The cost of these will be mentioned as part of the Material cost at the time of
Enrolment. Students can bring their own personal safety equipment PPEs.
Students will require continual access to their own laptop computer during class and outside
of class to meet training and assessment requirements.
Students exiting this qualification may choose to progress with further studies by
undertaking the following qualification:
• CPC40120 Certificate IV in Building and Construction
• CPC50220 Diploma of Building and Construction (Building)
• Other trade or building-related diplomas and licenses.

Prior to enrolment SIT will determine any prior learning of each student with regard to their existing skills, knowledge and experience that the student may have acquired through formal (credit transfer), non-formal and informal learning related to Units of Competency in this qualification, in order to determine the amount of training SIT will provide to each student. Prior to course commencement, enrolled students will be required to undertake a Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) Assessment designed for Cert IV level, so that SIT can determine whether students need LLN support during their studies.

SIT meets the requirements of the Student Identifier scheme. SIT will not issue AQF certification documentation to a student without being in receipt of a verified Student Identifier for that student, unless an exemption applies under the Student Identifiers Act 2014.
SIT offers a range of Student Support Services to help the overseas students in adjusting to study and life in Australia. Students will be provided with an age and culturally appropriate Orientation Program which will provide them with information about the services available to ease their transition into life and study in Australia and to assist them as needed. This provision of support services to students is as an integral part of training services provided by SIT. These support services will be provided at no additional cost to the student.
Students are required to maintain satisfactory course progress. SIT will monitor the course progress to ensure that students are able to complete their course within the expected duration specified in the COE. Students may be able to temporarily defer the commencement of their studies or suspend their enrolment after commencement on the grounds of compassionate or compelling circumstances.
SIT may suspend or cancel a student enrolment including but not limited to, breach of Enrolment Agreement and visa conditions.
SIT will inform the student in writing about the intention to suspend or cancel the student enrolment and the reason for doing so. The student will be given a notice of intention to report and 20 working days to access SIT’s internal complaints and appeals process.
